Chelsea, Tottenham ready move for £15m West Brom striker Josh Maja

Premier League duo Chelsea and Tottenham are preparing to move for West Brom star Josh Maja, according to Fichajes.

The Spanish news outlet reported on Saturday (11 January) that the London clubs are “seriously considering” Maja as an option this month after his goalscoring exploits in the Championship this term.

Maja has been attracting interest from sides across Europe this season and could be on the move in January, with West Brom willing to entertain a sale should a suitable offer arrive [Express & Star].

West Brom must fend off Chelsea and Tottenham for Josh Maja

This is not the first time Maja has been linked with an exit from The Hawthorns, and this latest report will certainly stokes the flames.

The report claims the Baggies will demand £15million for the forward, a significant upgrade on the £9.9m fee expected to be accepted by Ipswich Town in a previous claim from the Spanish news outlet.

Maja has scored 12 goals in the Championship thus far this year – interest in his services this month was always expected at The Hawthorns.

However, with Albion still searching for a Carlos Corberan replacement, Shilen Patel cannot consider sanctioning the sale of arguably the most important member of the squad.

West Brom are well on track to secure a playoff berth in the Championship, and after the crushing 5-1 loss against Bournemouth in the FA Cup, all the attention can turn on a strong league finish in the second half of the season.

Furthermore, Maja would be sacrificing regular first-team football to be on the books of either of the Premier League duo – neither Chelsea nor Tottenham need a starting striker.

Not only would Albion be sacrificing their chances of promotion this season, Maja would be giving up playing week in and week out at The Hawthorns – Baggies supporters shouldn’t lose any sleep over this report.
