West Brom next manager: Raphael Wicky head turned as other job offers emerge

West Brom are said to be the club to have turned the head of Raphael Wicky amid managerial offers from elsewhere, according to Chris Lepkowski.

The Baggies’ long-winded search for a Carlos Corberan replacement appears to be edging closer to the finish line with Wicky expected to become the new head coach [Sky Sports].

Wicky flew into the country for talks with West Brom last week [DOOD], but it could have been a very different story with it revealed that he had several offers from elsewhere.

Speaking via The Liquidator podcast [12 January], BBC journalist Lepkowski said: “What I will say about Raphael Wicky is that he’s had other offers. He’s had offers from other clubs.

“This is the one that has turned his head. This is the job that he has really identified as being the one that he can maybe not only prosper at, and not only can West Brom prosper, but he can prosper himself.”

West Brom can take immense optimism from Raphael Wicky update

With Wicky all but set to be appointed the new West Brom manager, questions will emerge as to whether has the necessary credentials to lead the team forward. The very fact that he was being courted by several other teams should provide optimism.

Having already signed off on several recruitment plans, the future looks bright for the Baggies under him and he is seen as somewhat of a Carlos Corberan Version 2.0 in the sense that he will be able to carry on where the Spaniard left off.

The Baggies still have every chance of achieving promotion this season, although much of that will hinge on their ability to address one or two weaknesses across the squad this month.

While no time frame has been indicated for the appointment, it is certainly one that is edging closer and closer.

In other West Brom news, a rival Championship club are said to have made an approach for one Baggies star.
