West Brom slammed by Don Goodman for manager oversight

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman says it "is not a good look" for West Brom after it was revealed Raphael Wicky's proposed move to The Hawthorns has collapsed.

Albion were dealt a cruel blow on Monday (13 January) when it was reported that talks over a proposed appointment of Wicky had collapsed [John Percy] despite him having jetted in for talks last week.

The reason behind the collapse is understood to be down to the backroom staff's failure to obtain a visa [DOOD] and Goodman, exclusively talking to West Brom News, has slammed the club for a major oversight.

"It's a huge blow and it’s not a good look for West Brom," explained Goodman.

"They had narrowed it down and it was known to the public that [Wicky] was the first choice. Ultimately, checking work permits should surely have been part of the interview process before offering him the job."

West Brom to turn to Sean Dyche?

There simply isn't enough time to dwell on the ailed appointment of Wicky and attention must quickly turn the next names on the Baggies' list of candidates.

The longer the search goes on, the lesser their chances of promotion and the hierarchy will surely have this in the back of their mind.

Sean Dyche has emerged as a potential candidate, with an approach reportedly made to his agent [DOOD], as well as ex-Stoke manager Steven Schumacher.

Whoever is to be the next on the list of candidates, the Baggies need to act fast if they are to make anything out of this season.
