West Brom ‘want to sign’ second striker as Liverpool loan twist emerges

West Brom are one of five Championship sides pursuing a loan deal for Liverpool starlet Jayden Danns, according to DOOD.

The reliable Baggies insider reported via X (21 January) that Tony Mowbray wants two new forwards at The Hawthorns after news confirmed Josh Maja will be sidelined for “the next few weeks”.

Mowbray has already secured one offensive signing with Ipswich Town forward Ali Al-Hamadi, who is already in the West Midlands for medical tests ahead of a loan move [West Brom Xtra].

West Brom want to sign Liverpool forward Jayden Danns

Shilen Patel appears eager to back Mowbray in his second stint at West Brom, and Premier League promotion is very much a possibility heading into the business end of the season.

As per Sky Sports (21 January), St Gallen striker Willem Guebbels is another transfer target being considered at The Hawthorns.

However, Albion will be restricted to the loan market as Maja’s injury is not long-term, and the Nigerian will be expected to resume his first team duties upon his return.

But, outside of his 12 Championship goals this term, West Brom desperately need another recognised goalscorer to aid the promotion push.

The Baggies have already approached Liverpool for Lewis Koumas [Daily Mail], son of the legendary Jason Koumas, but the Premier League leaders are content with his progress at Stoke City.

A move for Danns is a logical move for Mowbray – only an injury sustained at the beginning of the season prevented a loan exit from Anfield, and he immediately found the back of the net on his first team return in the FA Cup win against Accrington Stanley.

The 19-year-old scored 19 goals in 25 outings for Liverpool across youth and senior level, including a brace against Southampton in last year’s edition of the FA Cup – his eye for goal is unparamount.
