Tom Fellows ready to quit West Brom as £20m transfer news emerges

Tom Fellows has enjoyed another fruitful season on the whole so far for West Brom in 2024-25.

Fellows has had fans and pundits bowing at his feet following a string of superb performances, especially during the early part of the campaign which saw him reach 10 Championship assists before the turn of the year.

The whippet winger’s goal contributions have dried up somewhat of late as he adapts to the alterations in Tony Mowbray’s desired style of play, but the 21-year-old remains one of – if not the – most coveted possessions at The Hawthorns.

Fellows wanted in £20m Everton pursuit

With a young age profile, England Under-21 appearances under the belt and numbers being racked up in the Championship, the Premier League interest is never too far behind.

According to Darren Witcoop on page 69 of the Sunday Mirror (16 February), Everton are leading the race to sign Fellows, who is rated at The Hawthorns at around a £20million.

David Moyes’ Everton side pursued Fellows in January, too, but were unable to meet West Brom’s valuation of their homegrown star.

Southampton have also been credited with an interest, but are unlikely to be able to follow it up as relegation appears near-certain.

Fellows is understood to be keen to leave the Albion on a switch to Merseyside, with Everton on the up following Moyes’ return to Goodison Park as the Toffees prepare to move into their new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium from next season.

West Brom still hold a powerful hand on the winger, whose contract at The Hawthorns runs until the summer of 2027.

West Brom can keep Fellows if they earn promotion

One of the obvious benefits of promotion to the Premier League is the ability to keep hold of your coveted players, and West Brom would be no exception here.

At present, the top four in the Championship are clear of the chasing pack. When the top two of that quartet inevitably enter the top flight, one of the remaining two of Leeds United, Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland will be the favourites to join them via the play-offs.

But Albion know promotion is still very much a possibility, especially if they improve upon their current lack of consistency and Mowbray can find the right formula.

The Baggies’ attack has emerged far stronger out of the January transfer window than when they entered it, and the board will be expecting an improvement in the coming months to persuade fans that the Premier League is a feasible opportunity.

Should they achieve their aim, then a switch to Everton or another Premier League club could be perceived as a sideways move for Fellows, an academy graduate who will always have his home comforts with the Albion.
