West Brom face ‘huge’ Tom Fellows exit situation amid £20m transfer news

West Brom could be set to lose star man Tom Fellows in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old has starred for the Baggies this season, notching 11 assists and two goals in 37 Championship appearances.

That form has alerted Premier League clubs, the most prominent of which is Everton, who failed with a winter approach for the Albion star.

However, The Hawthorns outfit will face a struggle to keep the academy graduate if interest is revisited once the window reopens.

Everton set to continue Fellows pursuit

Everton are set to follow up on Fellows with a renewed bid after their winter interest, according to Sunday Mirror reporter Darren Witcoop (16 February, page 69).

The Albion ace is under contract until 2027 but that does not seem to have dissuaded David Moyes from making his move with a fee of £20million understood to be enough to tempt Albion to sell.

However, David Prutton has urged the Baggies to attempt to convince the homegrown star to stay in the West Midlands.

Speaking to Football League World (18 March), he said: “I think, given the structure of the Championship and clubs in the Championship, everybody has got their price.

“I think the fact that he has got that contract until the summer of 2027, means that hopefully within that, it’s been built that if he does go, he commands a sizeable fee.

“I think the potential to leave if they don’t go up is huge. However, that ability to fight tooth and nail to maybe show him that progression that he’s got may be better under someone like Tony Mowbray, with another batch of Championship games next season potentially under his belt.”

West Brom will struggle to keep Fellows

The Baggies will struggle to hold on to their academy star, unless they are promoted to the Premier League.

That could happen with Tony Mowbray‘s side occupying the final playoff berth with just eight matches left to play until the end of the season.

Race for the playoffs

Fellows deserves to be showcasing his talents in the top-flight but Baggies supporters will hope that it is with them, rather than with Moyes’ side.

If Albion can secure promotion then there is no reason for him to leave as he would be able to play at the top level with his boyhood club rather than moving somewhere away from his home comforts like Bramley-Moore Dock.

If they do not go up, it will be a major challenge to keep him and the Black Country outfit need to ensure that they get the right fee for their academy graduate because they will have to reinvest for a replacement.

The focus right now must be on maintaining their form and securing a playoff place and a potential place alongside Everton in the Premier League rather than Fellows’ future.
