Karlan Grant gets 7/10 as 4/10 defender stinks again – West Brom player ratings v Norwich
West Brom struggled to break down Norwich City as they lost 1-0 on a frustrating afternoon at Carrow Road.
After back-to-back 1-1 draws with both Burnley and Hull, the Baggies lost to a Canaries side who now boast an outside chance of breaking into the top six.
Tony Mowbray’s side were dealt a hammer blow when Josh Sargent beat Joe Wildsmith in second-half additional time in East Anglia.
West Brom News hands out the player ratings as the Baggies fell to a 1-0 defeat on the road:

West Brom player ratings v Norwich
Joe Wildsmith – 6
Did well to deny Sargent from a one-on-one situation early on, albeit a save West Brom supporters would expect him to make, wasn’t as at fault for the Norwich goal as his defenders.
Mason Holgate – 4
One of Mason Holgate’s better moments came when he held off Borja Sainz early on in the second half, ensuring that the Championship’s top scorer did not have a clear sight at Wildsmith’s goal.
However, he made himself far too easy for Sargent to dribble past on his way to scoring the winning goal.
Kyle Bartley – 5
Kyle Bartley had a relatively quiet afternoon defensively and struggled to deal with the pace of Norwich duo Sainz and Sargent when the Canaries had rare flurries forward.
One of West Brom’s main threats from set pieces, but still failed to find his first goal of the season and couldn’t get across in time to rectify Holgate’s mistake when Sargent scored.
Torbjorn Heggem – 6
Unlucky not to have given the Baggies the lead on 11 minutes when his header from Tom Fellows’ corner was saved by a diving Angus Gunn.
Not always at his defensive best, as both Sainz and Sargent were able to get in behind and cause problems.
Callum Styles – 7
Did well to ensure that Norwich left-back Kellen Fisher was not able to create problems when he advanced into forward areas.
Callum Styles worked hard to get himself into attacking areas while Mowbray’s men were on top.
Tom Fellows- 6
The Baggies’ second most lively player behind Grant, but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Alex Mowatt- 6
A solid presence in the middle of the park for the Baggies, but struggled to be a real difference maker in a game which was far from entertaining.
Jayson Molumby- 6
He leaned back far too much and fired his effort over the bar when he had an opportunity to open the scoring.
Completed one of the best tackles of the game to thwart Sainz on the counter-attack for Norwich.
John Swift- 7
John Swift was a frequent source of creativity for West Brom, but his efforts were in vain as the Baggies’ attackers were not clinical.
Karlan Grant – 7
On another day, Karlan Grant could have had a brace in the first half, and came close to scoring the opener when Gunn almost spilled his shot into his own net.
He was the Baggies’ biggest threat going forward throughout the afternoon, but ultimately lacked composure when it mattered.
Adam Armstrong – 5
Failed to display the sort of goalscoring prowess he showed for Southampton at Championship level, arguably the story of his Baggies stint so far.
Played a couple of dangerous-looking crosses in the second half but couldn’t pick out a teammate.

Armstrong lacks clinical edge for Baggies
