West Brom fans ‘start to lose faith’ after what Tony Mowbray did v Norwich

West Brom fans were not impressed with Tony Mowbray after the 1-0 defeat against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies looked toothless at Carrow Road and inefficient in front of goal, as they failed to take their chances in the defeat.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw until Josh Sargent scored in the stoppage time of the second half to steal all three points for the Canaries.

Mowbray leaves it too late against Norwich

The goalless first half indicated that the Baggies were struggling in front of the goal again, as they failed to produce consistent chances.

Mowbray decided to start Adam Armstrong and Karlan Grant, leaving the impressive Isaac Price on the bench alongside Grady Diangana.

In recent weeks, Armstrong has been the lone man up top, but there have been limitations to the Southampton loanee.

With a toothless display in the first half, the fans expected Mowbray to ring changes and add attackers who could impact the scoreline, but the former Blackburn manager did not make any substitutions for 78 minutes.

With the game heading for a stalemate and the Baggies unable to penetrate the low block of Norwich, the 61-year-old finally made a double change, bringing on Diangana and Johnston for Tom Fellows and Grant.

The fans were unhappy with the late substitutions and Mowbray’s failure to act earlier, with one fan saying on X: “Too long and needed Dike and Price”.

Another commented: “We shouldn’t be getting a score like this against Norwich.”

West Brom make life tougher for themselves

West Brom are now level with Middlesbrough and Bristol City on 57 points, although they occupy the last Championship play-off spot on goal difference.

The race for the final two spots is now very close, with three sides on the same points and Coventry ahead of those by just two points.

Mowbray’s tactics have invited widespread criticism as the Baggies have just one win in the last five Championship games.

If the West Midlands club do not improve their performances, they could lose grip on the Championship play-off spot and, in turn, lose their shot at Premier League promotion.

The Baggies will face Bristol City and Coventry, direct play-off rivals, in the next few weeks, and the outcome of these games will play a huge role in the race for the play-off spots.
