Shilen Patel sends message to West Brom fans after what he was spotted doing
West Brom chairman Shilen Patel completed a takeover of the club last year, and has since gotten more involved with day-to-day affairs.
Patel became majority shareholder of West Brom in February 2024, acquiring the Baggies from Guochuan Lai’s business group.
The American-Indian businessman also has minority shares in Serie A side Bologna, but is looking to make a positive impact at West Brom.
West Brom were dealt a blow as they lost manager Carlos Corberan midway through the season, and Patel has a huge summer ahead of him across all aspects of the club.

West Brom chairman Patel attends women’s game
West Bromwich Albion’s Women’s side were in action on Sunday (13 April) as they faced Stoke City at the Valley Stadium, and chairman Patel was a surprise attendee, given that he still resides in the USA.
The women’s side were facing their final home game of the season, but fell to a 3-2 defeat with Patel watching on.
Championship table (4th-7th) | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
4 Sunderland | 42 | 19 | 76 |
5 Bristol City | 42 | 9 | 64 |
6 Coventry | 41 | 5 | 62 |
7 West Brom | 42 | 12 | 60 |
Nevertheless, Patel was full of positive words for Women’s manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still and her side following the game.
“Great to make it out for the home finale! Siobhan’s crew are competing with intensity as usual and the fans at the ground are some of the most committed supporters I’ve met in the West Brom community,” he posted on X.
How have West Brom’s Women’s team fared this season?
With just one game remaining, West Brom’s Women’s side have not had the most successful season in the FA WPL Premier Division.
Their 3-2 loss at home to Stoke meant that while they consolidated seventh place in the league, they could be overtaken by Khalsa or Hull City Ladies, with both sides just one point behind.
Patel will certainly be hoping for the Women’s team to develop in the long run under his ownership, while the men’s side under Tony Mowbray are still clinging onto their Premier League promotion hopes.
