Alex Mowatt reacts as Derby agree terms to sign ex-West Brom player

Alex Mowatt has been a mainstay in the West Brom team since his move to The Hawthorns in 2021.

The midfielder followed former manager Valerien Ismael to the Black Country club and has gone on to make over 100 appearances.

Last season, the 30-year-old managed to net seven times and pick up two assists despite West Brom’s awful end to the campaign.

Now, the midfielder will be looking to impress incoming manager Ryan Mason ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Former West Brom loanee Andreas Weimann joins Derby County

One player who was less successful at The Hawthorns was Andreas Weimann.

The former Wolves attacker joined the Baggies on loan for the latter half of the 2023/24 campaign after struggling at Bristol City.

At West Brom, his fortunes did not change, and he only netted twice in 13 matches.

As a result, he was soon returned to Bristol City at the end of the campaign before being released.

From here, he had a spell at Blackburn Rovers last season and has now officially returned to his former club, Derby County.

As a result, Weimann took to Instagram to announce his move, where he claimed he was “buzzing” to be back.

Mowatt was quick to react to this news, as the midfielder liked the post.

Mason should look to sign Championship regulars this summer

While Weimann clearly did not work out at West Brom, adding someone who has regularly done well in the Championship would likely only benefit the Baggies.

Multiple sides have proven in recent years that experience can be the difference between promotion to the Premier League and staying in the second tier, and Mason should look to take advantage of this market.

If he does, the manager may be pleasantly surprised by the results, especially with how cheap some of the players can be.

Hopefully, if Mason does choose to go down this route, it will not be a repeat of the Weimann transfer.
