Nigel Quashie makes request to Ryan Mason ahead of West Brom vs Derby County
Ryan Mason’s West Brom play host to Derby County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Off the back of their 1-0 win against Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, West Brom return to The Hawthorns to face John Eustace’s Derby in Carabao Cup action.
The Baggies will be looking to progress in the competition, while also being wary of the need to keep players fit for league action, given the fact that it will be their priority.
A 2-1 defeat away to Fleetwood Town saw them exit the cup in the first round last season, and they will be looking to avoid the same fate against the Rams.
However, Nigel Quashie has made it clear what he wants to see from Albion, and it may not fare well for their chances of progressing.

Mason could turn to youth for Derby encounter
West Brom aren’t blessed with squad depth, and with that in mind, there is every chance the Baggies make a whole host of changes to their starting 11.
Mason has several youth prospects who will be looking to break into the first team this season, which is exactly what Quashie wants to see.
Ablion’s last three Carabao Cup results
- Fleetwood 2-1 West Brom
- Derby 1-0 West Brom
- West Brom 1-0 Sheffield United
Writing via X on Tuesday, the former Albion star said: “Give some young players some minutes and a taste of first-team football.”
West Brom have a handful of wonderkids to keep an eye on this season, with the likes of Harry Whitwell, Deago Nelson and Jack Bray all potentially set to feature against Derby in some capacity.

West Brom must build momentum
Although league games will be the priority, cup encounters can provide the chance to build momentum, which can only benefit you going forward.
Mason needs to find a balance in his squad to ensure that their chances of victory are not dwindled by the prospect of utilising youth.
The Rams fell to a heavy 3-1 defeat in their season opener against Stoke, and will be looking to get their first win of the season at The Hawthorns.
