West Brom medical underway to sign Darnell Furlong replacement who John Terry called ‘unbelievable’
West Brom are having a dramatic end to the summer transfer window.
Tom Fellows is on the verge of moving to Southampton, with Ryan Mason bracing to lose his star man.
Caleb Taylor also looks like he could be set to leave, whilst Darnell Furlong recently completed a move to Ipswich Town.
Luckily for West Brom supporters, Furlong’s replacement looks set to be arriving imminently, with the defender previously receiving high praise from John Terry.

Alfie Gilchrist set for permanent move to West Brom
With the sale of Torbjorn Heggem and Kyle Bartley’s retirement earlier in the summer, West Brom have seen many familiar faces in their backline leave the club.
Nat Phillips looks to be a fantastic piece of business so far, and Shilen Patel and Co. look to have pulled another rabbit out of the hat when it comes to impressive defensive recruitment.
According to reports from Ben Jacobs on X on 29 August, Alfie Gilchrist is set to join West Brom on a permanent move, with the 21-year-old having undergone his medical this morning.
- Gilchrist was loaned out from Chelsea to Sheffield United last season
- The youngster made 30 Championship appearances last season for the Blades
- Gilchrist will come in and likely be Mason’s first choice right-back
The youngster is expected to join for a fee of around £2million plus add-ons.
With Chris Mepham also signing for West Brom, the Baggies’ new-look defence looks to be extremely impressive on paper.
John Terry full of praise for Alfie Gilchrist
Naturally, being a defender who is the product of Chelsea’s academy, you are bound to catch the eye of Terry.
Gilchrist made 11 Premier League appearances for Chelsea back in the 2023/24 season, and Terry has spoken glowingly in the past about the soon-to-be Albion man.
“Alfie Gilchrist, he’s a really, really good player. He’s got an unbelievable attitude… I’m expecting big things from Alf,” Terry said.
“Literally from the first training session in which I saw him, he reminded me of myself.
“He was keen to learn, asking me questions about defending and constantly picking my brains over what I would do in different situations. And he’s 100 per cent in everything he does. Whether that’s the warm-up to get him going, he’s all-in.
“You don’t ever want to take that away. Even on his recovery days, he’s 100 miles per hour.”
This work ethic, along with his raw talent, means Mason looks to be bringing an extremely talented player with him to The Hawthorns, who will hopefully help boost their promotion hopes this season.
