Sky Sports pundit baffled by what he saw Norwich City fans do in stands vs West Brom

West Brom secured their third clean sheet of the season with an impressive 1-0 win at Norwich City on Wednesday night.

The Black Country outfit continued their bright start to the campaign away from home by notching their third victory from four outings on their travels.

Josh Maja’s 20th-minute goal was the difference for West Brom, who defended manfully in the latter stages of the game to protect their lead and ensure that the three points will be heading back to B71.

The Canaries threw everything at the visitors in the latter stages, but they couldn’t find a way through Ryan Mason’s side, much to the annoyance of the home crowd.

David Phillips baffled by Norwich City fans leaving vs West Brom

Samuel Iling-Junior turned in a strong display for West Brom once again, as he was the main creative threat for the visitors throughout the evening.

The Aston Villa loanee troubled the hosts’ backline with his direct running, and he provided the cross that ultimately resulted in Maja netting the only goal of the game.

Albion have struggled to see out games in recent weeks, and conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to Leicester City last time out. As a result, the travelling fans could have been forgiven for being a little edgy as the clock ran down.

However, it was the home faithful who came under scrutiny from ex-Norwich hero David Phillips during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game.

The former Wales international expressed his confusion when the TV cameras showed Norwich fans heading for the exits during stoppage time.

“I never understand fans when you’re 1-0 down or 1-0 up or whatever it is,” Phillips said.

“And there are three minutes to go, and you’re quite prepared to leave the game.”

Clean sheet is invaluable for Albion

West Brom have developed a concerning habit for conceding goals in the latter stages of games in recent weeks, as exactly half of their goals against this term have come beyond the 75-minute mark.

As a result, it was hugely promising to see them defend with their bodies on the line once again and begin to resemble the team that looked like such a formidable defensive unit at the start of the campaign.

The Baggies hadn’t kept a clean sheet since the win away at Stoke City at the end of August, and considering their slight struggles in front of goal at the moment, it will be vital that they remain tight at the back.

Mason’s men have suffered some unfortunate luck at times of late, so it was refreshing to see them rewarded for their efforts in Norfolk.
