West Brom were knocked out of Carabao Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Derby County on Tuesday.

The Baggies came into the match on the back of a positive 1-0 victory over Blackburn.

Ryan Mason’s side finally took the lead in the second half thanks to a Aune Heggebo tap-in. However, a late Joe Ward goal took the match to penalties.

Here, the Baggies were only able to convert two of their five, with Derby scoring three to put them through.

Now, West Brom News has analysed each player and rated their performance against Derby.

Alex Williams proves himself to Ryan Mason

Coming into the match, there was plenty of debate on who was going to play at right-back for West Brom

Captain Darnell Furlong was sent off against Blackburn, ruling him out of the match against Derby.

Therefore, Alex Williams was brought into the squad and made his debut against the East Midlands side.

The 20-year-old did not look out of place in the side at all and was comfortable throughout.

Williams has no doubt sent a message to Mason that he should be considered an option in the squad this season.

Joe Wildsmith struggles vs Derby County

Joe Wildsmith had little to do throughout the game against Derby until the goal.

Realistically, the goalkeeper needs to be doing better, especially so late in the match.

Wildsmith made a mistake against Sunderland last season, and he did himself no favours on Tuesday.

It only made matters worse that the Baggies went on to lose on penalties, with the goalkeeper unable to rectify his mistake.
