Leeds full of praise for West Brom
West Brom might not have left Elland Road with any points from Tuesday’s game but Slaven Bilic’s side impressed Leeds massively.
Talking after the game (as quoted by Birmingham Live), Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa said, “You always ask criteria to analyse the matches we are going to play. In the first half we did a little bit better than them and in the second half they were a little better than us. What they produced in the last 20 minutes was good. It’s not normal to see such production in attack as they did in the last part of the match.”
And Bilic revealed after the game that Leeds had described West Brom as “by far the best team they have played this season,” adding, “that means something.”
Getting knocked down to third in the Championship obviously hurts, but there’s plenty to be encouraged by from the Elland Road stats.
West Brom had 53% of possession and passed Leeds off the park (354 to 329, with 78% accuracy over 74% from Leeds). [SofaScore]
Not many teams will go to Elland Road and do that.
SofaScore’s attack momentum graph shows the game was evenly matched, with West Brom piling on the pressure in the last 20 minutes of the game.
That’s the part of the game Bielsa said was “not normal” and the only downside is that the Baggies couldn’t convert that dominance into an equalising goal.
Had we scored we think only one team would have gone on to win.
Cardiff visit The Hawthorns on Saturday and they’ve already lost four of their first 10 games. Another win for the Baggies will get the Bilic bandwagon back on track.
