‘Magnificent’ – Morrison blown away by West Brom player in 2-2 v Charlton
Clinton Morrison was impressed by Hal Robson-Kanu’s “magnificent” goal as West Brom drew 2-2 against Charlton at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.
Robson-Kanu, 30, came off the bench to score his second goal in three games as Albion were involved in their second four-goal stalemate of the week.
The Welsh forward should really have doubled his tally and earn the Baggies all three points in the final phases of stoppage time, but ex-Birmingham player Morrison was still thrilled with the one goal he did get.
“Charlton defenders just let him travel and get to the edge of the box, cutting in on his right foot,” said Morrison on Sky Sports News on Saturday [04:43pm].
“When he gets there, it’s a magnificent finish. He bends it around the two defenders into the far corner and it’s a brilliant finish from Robson-Kanu.
“It’s probably his first touch since coming on as a sub.”
Robson-Kanu is not exactly known for his goalscoring prowess but since he was handed a new contract last week, he’s scored a couple of important goals in the win against Middlesbrough before his strike versus Charlton this weekend.
It will be interesting to see what Slaven Bilic does with the former Reading striker as he now has the same number of goals as Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore this season, even though he has only started one league match.
Austin’s not looked sharp in his last three appearances and with Zohore injured, there’s a chance Robson-Kanu could start when West Brom travel to Stoke in their next Championship fixture.
In other West Brom news, Paul Robinson was stunned that Albion managed to sign this player in the summer.
