‘Sensational’ – These West Brom fans react to 26y/o after display v Charlton

West Brom stayed top of the table after a 2-2 draw against Charlton on Saturday and fans were delighted after another brilliant display from goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Matty Phillips gave the home side the lead before Macauley Bonne scored his fifth goal in six games for the visitors.

Hal Robson-Kanu scored what looked like the winner for the Baggies in the 81st minute, his second in consecutive games, before Josh Cullen scored from a controversial injury-time penalty.

Johnstone is doing his best to prove his critics wrong after he had to engage with fans on Twitter at the start of the season after some poor form.

He was brilliant against Leeds, when he was the highest-rated player on pitch according to WhoScored, and he put in a match-winning display against Middlesbrough in the recent 1-0 win.

He was at it again on Saturday, with brilliant saves to keep Conor Gallagher and Naby Sarrr out.

The lot of a goalie is a tough one – you’re only normally remembered for your errors, but make no mistake, Johnstone is winning points for his side this season and on this form must be the best in the league.

This is what the fans have been saying about the transformation of Johnstone this season.
