Former West Brom midfielder James Morrison announced his retirement as a player today after leaving The Hawthorns in the summer, but fans are delighted to hear that he’s returning as a coach.
The news was announced on the club’s official Twitter page on Tuesday afternoon.
Morrison spent 12 years with the Baggies where he made 341 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals and adding 37 assists.
He also won 46 caps for Scotland and scored three goals for his country.
Talking on the official site, Morrison said he was looking forward to the next chapter in his career and that he was glad it would be back at The Hawthorns.
“It’s been really hard to make this decision,” Morrison said. “Football has been my life for so long. It’s difficult to say goodbye to that.
“Having said that, being offered the opportunity to return to this club to begin some coaching has helped me come to terms with my playing days coming to an end.”
West Brom technical director Luke Dowling said that Morrison would work with the Under-16s, 18s and 23s on an ad hoc basis.
Former West Brom player Ben Foster as one of the first with congratulations and said, “What a player! Congrats on a brilliant career Mozza, another great signing West Brom.”
