‘Unsure’, ‘Brilliant news’ – These West Brom fans split over Gareth Barry signing
Slaven Bilic has said that he expects Gareth Barry to re-join West Brom and hailed him as “the full package”.
Some fans aren’t so sure.
At 38, Barry is at the tail-end of a brilliant career that saw him play out his last two years at the Hawthorns.
He made 55 appearances for the club, including 24 in the Championship last season.
However, some don’t know where he fits in with the current side and one fan said he couldn’t see Barry playing “any more than five games for us from now until the end of the season”.
However, what he does bring is experience and a calm head. And that’s something that Bilic mentioned in his press conference today.
That experience extends to more than just game-time on the pitch, and Bilic said that Barry would be an important figure in the dressing room and on the training field.
There’s no disputing that. And some fans have got the vision to see that he could well be utilised in the last few minutes of games where we need to see it out to get a result.
One said Barry “could be the difference with us losing leads in the final minutes” and with the Championship as tight as it is, that could be the difference between getting promoted and staying in the second tier of football.
Here’s what the fans are saying about Barry coming home:
