Pellegrini delivers huge update on key West Brom loan player
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has delivered the update every West Brom fan has been waiting for and ruled out recalling Grady Diangana in January.
Diangana has been a big hit at The Hawthorns since his arrival on loan and fans were fearing that he would be this season’s Harvey Barnes.
Barnes was recalled by Leicester in January last season after scoring nine goals and adding seven assists for the Baggies.
It’s impossible to say how things world have turned out had he stayed, but it’s fair to say he was a massive loss in the second half of the season.
West Brom ended up finishing fourth and crashed out of the play-offs to Aston Villa, who went on to get promoted.
Diangana has scored four goals and added five assists in just 13 appearances to date and there was speculation that West Ham would recall him in January.
However, Pellegrini has put West Brom fans out of their misery.
Talking to Sky Sports he said, “I think Grady Diangana is doing what we want him to do – the same as Josh Cullen.
“They are players that without any doubt will be part of the West Ham team in the future.
“He [Diangana] is one of the players that I trust a lot in. I think that it was better for him to go and play 40 games this year and be absolutely ready for next season.
“We must continue to support him and we are happy with his performance. He will finish his season where he is.”
Diangana has put in consistently brilliant performances all season and has an average rating of 7.3 on WhoScored. He was West Brom’s man of the match in the 4-2 against Cardiff.
