View: Forgotten 21y/o proves quality in Slaven Bilic’s West Brom squad

Former Arsenal winger Chris Willock is still waiting for his West Brom debut after a summer loan move from Benfica.

He’s been doing bits for the Under-23s, with five goals in eight Premier League 2 games this season, but that’s not been enough to get him in Slaven Bilic’s Championship squad.

His attitude is good, though. Talking to the official West Brom site he said he would work harder to put himself in the first-team reckoning.

“My main goal is to get minutes in the first-team,” said Willock.

“Hopefully I can do that soon. I spoke to the boss a few weeks ago and he said I need to be to patient and wait for an opportunity and keep working hard.

“That’s what I intend to do I think the team has a lot of quality and it shows because the team is playing very well, the boss has a good relationship with all the players and hopefully the first-team can carry on with their recent form.”

The problem for Willock is the embarrassment of riches that Bilic has in his first-team squad.

Matheus Pereira, Matty Phillips, Filip Krovinovic, Kyle Edwards and Grady Diangana are all ahead of the 21-year-old and the first choice wingers are in scintillating form at the moment.

Phillips is the club’s top scorer with six goals, while Diangana has four and Pereira has three.

Willock will know this and he’ll know that all he can do is keep his head down and keep scoring the goals and registering the assists for the Under-23s.

It’s a long season and his chance will come but for West Brom it’s a sign of how strong the squad is under Bilic.
