Man City set sights on in-demand West Brom teenager – report
Manchester City have joined Liverpool in the race to sign impressive West Brom teenager Jovan Malcolm, according to Football Insider.
The news outlet claims that Manchester United and Arsenal have also set their sights on the 16-year-old forward, who scored four goals as West Brom’s Under-18s won 6-3 against Liverpool’s youth side last week.
Man City have reportedly been alerted to Malcolm’s form and are now providing stiff competition to Liverpool in the hunt for the youngster’s signature.
It is not the first time this year that Man City have raided West Brom’s academy.
Morgan Rogers left The Hawthorns in the summer to head to the Etihad in a deal that ended up seeing the Baggies pocket £4million [Telegraph].
Director of football Txiki Begiristain is said to have been key to driving forward that deal for the reigning Premier League champions and while West Brom fans were gutted to lose a highly-rated youngster, it at least led to the club making some decent money.
That was not the case when Louie Barry left for Barcelona in the summer though with the Spanish giants only having to pay a measly £215,500 in compensation fees [Daily Mail].
If Malcolm does end up heading to one of the Premier League’s top sides then hopefully West Brom can at least earn a few million from the deal, in the same way they did with Rogers.
In other West Brom news, this top-flight club is braced for January interest in one of Albion’s transfer targets.
