Report: PL club braced for interest in 29-year-old wanted by West Brom

Newcastle United are braced for interest in striker Dwight Gayle in January as West Brom aim to re-sign the 29-year-old, according to the Telegraph.

Gayle scored 24 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Baggies last season as they finished fourth in the Championship before defeat in the play-off semi-finals.

And it is understood that the Baggies want to reunite with the ex-Crystal Palace forward in January as Newcastle ready themselves for interest.

The Telegraph adds that the Magpies are short of options in the striker position due to Yoshinori Muto’s desire to leave St James’ Park, which suggested that Slaven Bilic could face a problem in his hunt to get Gayle back at The Hawthorns.

West Brom’s strikers have not exactly been in the hottest form this season, despite the Black Country club leading the way in the Championship.

Charlie Austin has just one league goal to his name while Kenneth Zohore’s only two goals for the Baggies came from the penalty spot in August.

Hal Robson-Kanu is the club’s top-scoring striker with three goals this season, with all of them coming in appearances off the bench.

In other West Brom news, this loaned-out Albion player might not be finished at The Hawthorns just yet.
