Report: Man United in hunt to sign West Brom ace excelling at The Hawthorns

Manchester United are in pursuit of West Brom loan star Matheus Pereira, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Pereira, 23, has caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs after excelling in the Championship while on loan from Sporting CP.

West Brom have the option to sign the Brazilian for £8.25million but that does not mean that other clubs cannot swoop in and lure the attacker away from Sporting on a permanent basis.

The Express & Star reported last month that Albion had agreed personal terms with Pereira and have the obligation to sign him on a permanent basis if they win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Although personal terms have been agreed, there are yet to be any reports about the Brazilian actually putting pen to paper ahead of his move being made formal when the transfer window re-opens in January.

That means that until Pereira signs on the dotted line, he is still free to choose which club he signs for on a permanent basis.

Man United could well swoop in, offer Sporting CP a more attractive deal, and then enter talks with Pereira if they wish – he is not yet a West Bromwich Albion player.

This report by the Mirror could be something that has been put out there to try and scare West Brom into striking a permanent deal sooner rather than later.

Either way, Luke Dowling and Mark Jenkins should be busting a gut to get the 23-year-old signed up.

In other West Brom news, Manchester City have set their sights on this Albion teenager.
