Madeley delivers updates on new West Brom deals for two first-team stars
West Brom journalist Steve Madeley has delivered an update on two West Brom players out of contract in the summer.
19-year-old defender Nathan Ferguson has been hugely impressive this season, breaking into the first team and making 13 starts.
He’s missed the last two games with suspension and is also out of the game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
He’s also out of contract in the summer and in a Q&A on the Athletic, Madeley said that there has been no progress in talks.
According to the Express & Star, there’s a five-year deal waiting for him to sign but he’s happy to play a waiting game at the moment.
Madeley said, “That leaves some big questions hanging over January – will any club make a cheeky offer knowing that they could get him for next to nothing next summer, and if someone offers, say, £3m, do Albion accept it knowing they could lose him for next to nothing next summer?”
Conor Townsend has taken advantage of Ferguson’s absence to start the last two games, but the youngster would be a big loss if we had to cash in on him in January.
Madeley also said that he had heard that there have been some informal conversations with midfielder Kyle Edwards.
The 21-year-old has made 13 appearances so far in the Championship this season and is also out of contract next summer.
In other West Brom news, fans want the club to offer a new deal to this attacker.
