Robson-Kanu apologises to West Brom fans about incident last season

Hal Robson-Kanu has apologised to West Brom fans for getting himself suspended for the play-offs at the end of last season.

In the final match of the regular season, Robson-Kanu was shown a red card for a childish kick out at Derby’s Bradley Johnson.

Albion already had their play-off spot confirmed but the incident saw the Welsh forward hit with a three-match ban, ruling him out of every play-off match if the Baggies had reached the final.

West Brom, of course, failed to reach the final after losing in the semi-finals to bitter rivals Aston Villa.

Dwight Gayle was sent off in the first-leg, rendering him unavailable for the home leg at The Hawthorns and by the end of that game, Jay Rodriguez was walking wounded.

West Brom just about took the game to a penalty shoot-out but the lack of strikers on the pitch saw Villa book their spot at Wembley, where they would eventually seal promotion.

Robson-Kanu was widely – and fairly – criticised by supporters for his stupid red card against Derby and he has since issued an apology to fans.

“Yes, I’ve got to say ‘sorry’ to everyone for that one,” Robson-Kanu told West Brom’s official website. “Sheer frustration, I’m afraid. In the moment, I was annoyed with one of the lads who I didn’t feel had pressed one of their players hard enough.”

Robson-Kanu has become a new player under Slaven Bilic.

He was such a frustrating figure last season but right now is one of the most in-form strikers in the Championship with four goals in his last six appearances.

Fans are likely to accept the ex-Reading man’s apology but it would be great if he can really make it up to The Hawthorns faithful by firing the side to automatic promotion to the Premier League.

In other West Brom news, David Prutton has predicted the outcoming of the clash against Bristol City.
