‘Top player’ – Charlie Austin blown away by ‘fantastic’ West Brom team-mate

Charlie Austin has been blown away by the “fantastic” form that Hal Robson-Kanu has shown for West Brom in recent weeks.

Before the season started, no one would have predicted that towards the end of November, the 30-year-old would be Albion’s top-scoring striker.

Robson-Kanu has netted four goals in his last six Championship appearances for the Baggies with only winger Matt Phillips hitting the back of the net more times than the Welshman this season.

West Brom’s decision to offer a new contract to Robson-Kanu in early October was not exactly the best-received news among fans, but since then, the ex-Reading forward has been on fire and fellow striker Austin is well aware of that.

“Not just in the games but also when he’s come off the bench he has been top drawer,” Austin said, as quoted by the Express & Star.

“He’s been fantastic. He is a great outlet, holding the ball up and scoring goals. As a striker you always want to score goals and Hal is certainly doing that now, helping the team go forward up the pitch.

“He is a top player and deserves all the success he is having so far.”

Robson-Kanu had only scored nine goals for West Brom before signing that contract so concerns about his new deal were fair.

However what has happened since then is proof that Slaven Bilic has the magic touch when it comes to underperforming players.

Robson-Kanu, Kyle Bartley and Jake Livermore have all improved leaps and bounds under the Croatian manager’s leadership and West Brom look as though they are serious contenders to not only win promotion but win the Championship title this term.

In other West Brom news, Robson-Kanu has apologised to fans about an incident that happened earlier this year.
