‘Potential is unbelievable’ – Slaven BIlic heaps praise on one West Brom player

Slaven Bilic has singled out West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers for praise in an interview with Ian Holloway on Sky Sports, and said it was a sin he was at the Hawthorns all that time without anyone recognising his talent.

Sawyers came up through the youth ranks at West Brom before being sent out on a series of loans and then going to Walsall on a free in 2013.

He found his way back to West Brom via Brentford for £2.9m this summer and he’s been an absolute revelation under Bilic this season.

He’s played 90 minutes in every single game except the win against Sheffield Wednesday when he was suspended.

Talking on Sky, Bilic said, “The plan of the board was to make the squad or a team a bit younger and try and go back [to the Premier League] in three years, or possibly straight away but it wasn’t imperative.

“We’ve done a good job in the transfer market… my assistant goes, who is this guy, Sawyers? West Brom guy, he’s from here, you know?

“For him to be that many years there it’s a sin. Why I say I will never be happy with him, of course I am happy with him, the way he plays and all that.

“But he can be, he can be… top, top, top, top player, top player that you have to push to be even better because his potential is unbelievable.”

Sawyers is expected to start tonight as West Brom travel to Deepdale to play Preston on the live Monday Night Football game.

A win will take his side back to the top of the Championship after Leeds thumped Middlesbrough 4-0 on Saturday.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm.

In other West Brom news, Emile Heskey has shared his thoughts on Harvey Barnes’ loan spell at The Hawthorns.
