Manager of promotion rival admits West Brom ‘blew us apart’

West Brom are riding high at the top of the Championship and Slaven Bilic’s side are looking like the team to beat this season.

The Baggies recently embarked on a run that rivals had earmarked as tough and potential for dropping points.

Instead, they have won five in a row, with the last two coming against promotion rivals Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Bilic’s men smashed the Robins 4-1 at The Hawthorns and talking ahead of his game against Fulham this weekend, Bristol City manager Lee Johnson paid tribute to the Baggies.

Asked about whether his side needed to beat someone in the top six Lee Johnson said, “West Brom blew us apart in patches and spells in the game… But if we played Leeds and West Brom again tomorrow I wouldn’t feel that we wouldn’t be competitive.

“The top two look like they’re going to pull away and it’s important to try and reign them in.”

West Brom are seven points ahead of Fulham in third and 10 points ahead of Bristol City who are in fifth.

West Brom host Swansea on Sunday and they’re struggling with no win in four games.

They’ve been beaten by Millwall and Fulham and drawn with Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday, but they were all tight games and they will be no pushovers.

At the same time it could be argued that we were somewhat fortunate to beat Preston after getting a slightly dubious late penalty (although we were due luck after Charlton).

West Brom don’t play Bristol City again until February.
