View: Welsh defender could be decent January addition for West Brom amid reported interest

West Brom might find themselves in need of strengthening their full-back options in the January transfer window due to the interest that Nathan Ferguson is attracting.

According to a report by the Sun, Italian giants AC Milan have joined the race to sign the 19-year-old, who is also a target for Marseille, Hamburg, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

Ferguson’s contract expires at the end of the season and rather than seeing him leave for what could be a minimal compensation fee, there’s a chance that Albion might want to cash in on him in January to maximise profits on the young full-back.

An exit for Ferguson could leave West Brom light of options in the full-back area, especially due to Kieran Gibbs’ injury record that has meant he’s only played eight times in the Championship this season.

Ferguson has been Albion’s regular left-back this term and would need replacing if he was sold in January.

That could be why a report by TeamTalk says that the Baggies are hot on the heels of Sheffield Wednesday left-back Morgan Fox.

It is understood that the Owls could lose Fox, 26, in January due to his contract expiring next summer and, as well as West Brom, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield are all interested.

Fox could be a decent option to replace Ferguson if the teenager quits the Black Country in January.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Welsh full-back has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season and scored one goal in the process.

Stats by WhoScored show that he has averaged more interceptions and clearances than Ferguson this season while Fox has also been dribbled past on fewer occasions per league game.

With Fox’s contract ending in 2020, the in-form left-back might be available as a cheap option that could help West Brom see out the season and secure their return to the Premier League.

Ferguson cannot leave without being replaced and the former Charlton ace just seems like a decent option for Slaven Bilic to have.
