Many West Brom fans slam player who’s ‘been awful for weeks’ v Boro: ‘Offered nothing’

West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to slam Matt Phillips for his performance in the 2-0 defeat against Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns on Sunday.

Albion’s undefeated run came to an abrupt end in their final match of 2019 when Daniel Ayala and Ashley Fletcher scored in each half for the visitors.

Defeat for the Baggies also saw them drop to second in the Championship table as Leeds left it late to win 5-4 against Birmingham down the road at St Andrew’s.

All in all, it was West Brom’s worst afternoon of the season so far and too many players on the pitch were not at the races.

Phillips, 28, had a rotten outing for Albion.

The Scotland international was way too ineffective in the attack and offered next to nothing for Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin up front.

According to stats by WhoScored, Phillips only completed two dribbles in the whole game – which is the same number as what centre-back Ahmed Hegazi completed.

He did complete two key passes and all of his corner kicks were accurate, but the former QPR man lack a lot of quality that he had been showing earlier in the campaign.

A lot of West Brom fans took to social media during and after the defeat to Middlesbrough to air their concerns about the Scottish forward.
