West Brom could try to cut losses on £8m player in summer – reliable journalist
West Brom could try to cut their losses on Kenneth Zohore at the end of the season if they are promoted to the Premier League, according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.
Albion signed Zohore, 25, in an £8million deal [Telegraph] from Cardiff City in the summer but the striker has since made just four Championship starts for Slaven Bilic’s side.
Zohore is also yet to score from open play.
He netted his first and second goals for West Brom in successive games in August when he found the back of the net from the penalty spot against both Reading and Derby.
However, since then, the Dane has found himself below Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu in the pecking order and has struggled with injuries and poor form.
Speaking in a Q&A session via The Athletic’s website on Friday, Madeley was asked whether Zohore would be moved on in the January transfer window.
While he does not expect to see the centre-forward sold in the coming weeks, the journalist admits that a summer exit from The Hawthorns is a possibility.
“I don’t see him moving in January,” said Madeley
“Maybe if they get promoted and don’t see him as a Premier League option they might look to recoup some of the fee in the summer.”
Zohore has had a really tough time since his summer switch to West Brom.
He cannot be blamed for his injuries and the fact that Austin and Robson-Kanu have been in decent form but for £8million, you would expect him to be a starting striker.
West Brom may well have to cut their losses on Zohore in the summer if they go up but they might not be able to afford to if they miss out on promotion.
Luke Dowling did a lot of good work in Bilic’s first transfer window as West Brom boss but Zohore has no doubt been the biggest flop so far.
In other West Brom news, Mark Lawrenson has predicted Albion’s clash against Charlton this weekend.
