West Brom interested in Coventry midfielder valued over £2m – report

West Brom are aiming to strike a deal to sign Coventry midfielder Zain Westbrooke this month, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that Bristol City, Derby and Nottingham Forest are also interested in signing the 23-year-old before the January transfer window slams shut after an impressive first half of the season at Coventry.

Westbrooke has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands club this term, scoring four goals and supplying four assists in the process.

TeamTalk adds Coventry want at least £2million for the central midfielder, who began his career with Chelsea.

West Brom

West Brom could definitely get through the January transfer window without making any signings and still have a squad that is good enough to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

However there are areas of Slaven Bilic’s squad that could do with a bit of extra strength in depth.

Since the start of the season, most fans have said that a new striker is needed while there could also be a case put forward for a new full-back or two due to Kieran Gibbs’ injury issues and Nathan Ferguson’s contract situation.

Do West Brom need a central midfielder like Westbrooke?

They have Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore, who have started almost every league game in the midfield engine room this season but away from them, Bilic also has options in Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and Rekeeem Harper.

Albion might be better off saving that £2million.

In other West Brom news, the club have tabled a formal contract to a defender who Bilic cannot stop raving about.
