‘Definitely’ – West Brom ace who started v Charlton not looking for January exit
It was a day to remember for West Brom defender Jack Fitzwater against Charlton on Saturday.
Not only did the Baggies progress in the FA Cup, but the 22-year-old kept a clean sheet during his debut in the 1-0 victory.
After loan spells at lower-league clubs such as Chesterfield, Hednesford Town, Forest Green Rovers and Walsall, he would have been forgiven if he had lost some faith.
After making his debut at the Valley, Fitzwater spoke about his future and answered questions on whether he would be happy to stay and fight for his place in the first team.
“Definitely (I’m happy to stay for the season),” he told the Express and Star.
“I want to play for this club as many times as I can.”
It may be a bold choice to stick in the Midlands given the strength in depth available to Slaven Bilic, but the Croatian will surely admire his confidence after his impressive debut.
The Baggies have one of the best defensive partnerships in the entire Championship in the shape of Semi Ajayi and Kyle Bartley, and with the experience of Ahmed Hegazi also available it doesn’t look too good for Fitzwater.
Bilic will most likely only use him in the FA Cup once again, and apart from that he will be looking at chances with the under-23s for the rest of the season should he not leave.
Injuries and suspensions can happen at any time though, and Hegazi hasn’t had the best of luck with those, so should one of the main two defenders be sidelined, his chance could come.
