Reliable journalist shares what he has been told about Chris Brunt’s future at West Brom
Chris Brunt may have looked as though he was waving goodbye to West Brom fans at Charlton last week – but there does not appear to be any need to worry about his future just yet.
The Athletic have recently reported that Brunt, 35, could use the January transfer window to end his 12-and-a-half-year association with West Brom as he seeks more first-team football.
The former Northern Ireland international, who joined the Baggies from Sheffield Wednesday in 2007, has played just six times in all competitions this season and has failed to start a single Championship fixture with Slaven Bilic in charge.
Stoke City were said to be keen on signing Brunt but now, an update by The Athletic’s West Brom correspondent Steve Madeley suggests that the veteran midfielder might not be going anywhere just yet.
Speaking in a live Q&A session via The Athletic’s website on Friday, Madeley shared what the latest update he heard about Brunt’s future was.
“I was told last week that nothing was imminent. So as it stands he will stay, but there are still three weeks for that to change,” said the journalist.
Of course, there are still around three weeks left before the January transfer window slams shut and a lot can change between now and the deadline.
But the fact that there has been no real progress on a potential ‘Bruxit’ is good news for West Brom fans who would love to see the Northern Irishman see out his contract at The Hawthorns and get a proper goodbye at the end of the season.
In other West Brom news, Albion are not expected to sign Emre Mor this month.
