Ally Robertson: West Brom must go ‘all out’ to sign this striker in January

Slaven Bilic will be looking at his West Brom squad knowing that a couple of fresh faces this month could be key for their promotion push.

There are slight question marks around his options in the final third. Hal Robson-Kanu has cemented his spot, Charlie Austin only seems to fire off the bench, and the less said about Kenneth Zohore the better.

West Brom have the worst goal difference in the top-three, and although that may be down to their leaky defence, a few extra goals certainly wouldn’t go a miss.

Baggies legend Ally Robertson has suggested that West Brom must sign a new striker this January, and revealed the name he would go all out for at the Hawthorns.

“I think centre-forward is the one area of the team where there are still genuine question marks,” he wrote for the Express and Star.

“Hal Robson-Kanu has played very well and Charlie Austin is now scoring goals. But Kenneth Zohore hasn’t really got going following his big-money move from Cardiff.

“And I just feel there are players out there who could come in and find the back of the net more regularly. I’ve said before in this column Dwight Gayle is the one I’d be going all out for.”

With the financial fair play rules coming into play more regularly this season, West Brom must be careful. A loan-to-buy offer would be much more sustainable for the club at this moment.

The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley recently commented on the possibility of Gayle returning to The Hawthorns in January, and it didn’t make for good reading.

The reliable journalist said there is pretty much zero chance it will happen, news that will leave Robertson and thousands of Baggies fans disappointed.
