West Brom on verge of agreeing deal with free agent – report
West Brom are set to announce former Swansea left-back Martin Olsson as their first signing of the January transfer window, according to Expressen.
The Swedish newspaper claims that the 31-year-old will be “presented shortly” as a West Brom player after spending the last six months as a free agent.
It is understood that the Baggies are close to agreeing a contract with the 48-times Sweden international, who left a training camp in Qatar over the weekend to finalise his next club.
It seems as though Slaven Bilic is intent on bolstering his left-back option this month with Kieran Gibbs constantly suffering from injuries and doubts surrounding Nathan Ferguson’s future at The Hawthorns.
Olsson is available for free and now looks set to become Bilic’s first addition of the current transfer window.
Swansea released Olsson at the end of last season and the former Norwich and Blackburn left-back has since struggled to find himself a new club.
However he remains very experienced in English football with 197 Premier League appearances and 107 Championship appearances to his name.
If he can get up to full fitness as soon as possible then he could be a valuable member of the Albion squad in the second half of the season.
In other West Brom news, Bilic raved about this player after the draw at Charlton on Saturday.
