Steve Madeley shares West Brom stance on Cardiff fixture change

West Brom are happy with the new date for their clash against Cardiff City in the Championship, according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.

West Brom announced via their official Twitter account on Monday that their trip to the Cardiff City Stadium will now take place on Tuesday, January 28.

Albion’s progression to the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they will play away at West Ham on January 25th, meant that the match against Cardiff had to be changed to another date.

West Brom fans were hardly pleased with the news of the rescheduled fixture as a trip to South Wales on a weeknight is hardly the most alluring of away days.

However, according to Madeley, the Baggies were happy with the decision.

West Brom have another match to play and it is more than likely that Slaven Bilic will opt to start a weakened team against West Ham in the FA Cup, rather than risk his key players before the trip to Cardiff.

As much as we would love to see Albion go far in the cup, promotion to the Premier League is the priority and Bilic will be fully aware of that despite taking his current side to play against the club he previously played for and managed at.

It’s not ideal but maybe a second-string side can turn a few heads at the London Stadium later this month.
