View: West Brom handed boost as reported midfield target has loan spell terminated

West Brom have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of midfielder Conor Gallagher after he had his loan spell at Charlton terminated by Chelsea.

Football.London reported on Monday that West Brom are among a number of teams who are interested in signing Gallagher, 19, after an impressive first half of the season at The Valley.

Gallagher scored six goals and supplied three assists in 26 Championship appearances for Charlton, who confirmed via their official Twitter account on Tuesday that he had been recalled to Stamford Bridge by Chelsea.

Gallagher’s return to Chelsea is now bound to be treated as a boost by all the teams that are reportedly keen on the England Under-21 international – including West Brom.

Football.London’s report says that Burnley and Norwich are both interested in Gallagher but neither will be signing him this month.

They wanted loan-to-buy deals for Gallagher but that is not something Chelsea are happy with, which is understandable considering how much potential he has shown at Charlton.

Then there are Millwall, QPR and Swansea who are also said to be eyeing up Gallagher, as well as Championship leaders West Brom.

Gallagher is clearly a good player and Slaven Bilic could do with a bit of extra quality added to his midfield options.

The 19-year-old is a defensive-minded midfielder and Jake Livermore’s form has not been that great lately, so there’s a chance he is being eyed up to add competition for the former Tottenham and Hull man.

Either way, West Brom’s form has suggested that they could do with a bit of a freshen up this month and Gallagher, a player who has played well all season, could be just what Bilic needs.

In other West Brom news, this journeyman forward could breathe new life into Albion’s attack amid their poor run of form.
