Paul Robinson raves about former team-mate who Bilic wants at West Brom
Paul Robinson has been raving about Martin Olsson’s character as the former Blackburn left-back heads towards a potential move to West Brom.
The Daily Mail has reported that Olsson, 31, is undergoing a trial period at the Baggies ahead of earning a possible short-term contract.
Olsson has been a free agent since the end of last season when his contract expired at Swansea and has been trying to prove his fitness to the Baggies after recovering from a ruptured Achilles.
Speaking in a press conference this week, as quoted by BBC Sport, Baggies boss Slaven Bilic confirmed his interest in signing the Sweden international, who played alongside ex-England goalkeeper Robinson during his spell at Blackburn.
“He’s quiet, he’s very quiet, very unassuming – a lovely, lovely lad, really nice lad,” said Robinson in an interview with Football Insider.
“Wouldn’t find it hard to fit into any dressing room, very quiet, very unassuming but a really good character at the same time.”
As good as West Brom have been on the pitch this season, there is also a real sense that the squad is getting on very well behind the scenes too.
Every now and then you’ll see a picture or an interaction on social media that shows just how well this squad of players has bonded together.
Bilic has done a fantastic job at West Brom and maybe Olsson’s character is one of the reasons why he wants to see the Sweden international head to The Hawthorns this month.
Albion could do with an extra body in the left-back position due to Kieran Gibbs’ continual injury issues so this deal certainly makes sense if Olsson can prove his fitness.
In other West Brom news, Bilic is predicted to make one charge to his starting line-up for Monday night’s clash against Stoke.
