Many West Brom fans blast player at HT v Stoke for ‘playing like a prime Diego Lugano’
West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to blast Ahmed Hegazi for his performance in the first half against Stoke on Monday night.
Ahead of the match, Slaven Bilic took the surprising decision to drop Semi Ajayi and replace him with Hegazi in the heart of the defence.
Ajayi had played every minute of every Championship match before the clash against Stoke at The Hawthorns – and the decision to drop him seemed like a mistake almost straight away.
Hegazi has failed to play anywhere near as good as he did last season since returning from his injury earlier this term.
The Egypt international has never really looked fully up to speed and that was true in the opening phases against Stoke when he was outmuscled by Tom Ince as he set up Tyrese Campbell to score.
West Brom’s defence was woeful when Campbell hit the back of the net and Bilic is surely ruing his decision to drop Ajayi in favour of Hegazi.
The ex-Fiorentina centre-back was so bad in that first half he was even compared to Diego Lugano.
A fair comparison.

In other West Brom news, it’s been claimed that Albion would “guarantee promotion” if they sign this player.
