Report: West Brom defender will sign new contract after Friday training
Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Dara O’Shea has agreed a new contract to extend his stay at West Brom until the end of the 2022/23 season.
The 20-year-old has made his first three senior appearances for the Baggies this season after being shown a lot of faith in by manager Bilic.
O’Shea’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season but according to the Express & Star, he is set to officially put pen to paper on this new three-and-a-half-year deal after training is finished on Friday.
“Dara has signed a new contract which is brilliant for us, I’m delighted with that,” Bilic said on Friday, as quoted by the Express & Star.
“He’s top and I love Dara. He is the reason why we are not getting the players in those positions.”
O’Shea has really impressed in his senior appearances this season, especially in the 1-0 win away at Charlton in the FA Cup when he played at right-back.
The Republic of Ireland youth international also did well when he made his league debut for the Baggies when he came off the bench to help see out a 1-1 draw with Brentford.
O’Shea is one of those players who we can expect to see more from in the future, especially now that he has his contract situation sorted out.
He’s likely to start at West Ham in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
If he can impress at the London Stadium then, considering the club’s poor league form, O’Shea could give Bilic some food for thought.
In other West Brom news, there’s been an update on Grady Diangana’s loan spell at The Hawthorns.
