‘Have to accept’ – Kevin Phillips suggests Bilic has lost faith in some West Brom players

Slaven Bilic has recently admitted that his West Brom squad needs signings, with no new arrivals through the door at the Hawthorns as of yet this month.

The Baggies have been on a torrid run of form in the Championship and will get a welcome break with their FA Cup tie against West Ham on Saturday.

Despite no wins in their last six league games, West Brom still sit top of the league. January additions could be the difference between staying there or missing out on the automatic spots.

Kevin Phillips has recently suggested that Bilic could be losing faith in certain members of his Baggies squad, especially after admitting his need for signings.

“Well, I would have thought so,” he told Football Insider.

“When you’re challenging at the top of the league, you want a strong, solid squad and you have to accept that there are going to be a few knocks along the way, there’s been a lot of games over Christmas.

“To get out of this league you need a big squad and if Slaven feels another couple of signings could really bolster the squad, two or three would bolster the squad.”

It’s harsh to suggest that the Croatian could have lost faith. In fact, Phillips actually contradicted himself by going on to admit that you need to bolster your squad for success.

Bilic hasn’t lost faith, he is simply looking to add a couple of options to further strengthen his side’s grip on top spot. After all, you don’t get to the top of the Championship without having faith in your players.

Look at what happened to Leeds last season. The Whites didn’t add an outfield option in January, and they somehow missed out on automatic promotion, something Bilic will be keen to avoid.
