Report: West Brom express interest in Ligue 1 centre-back
West Brom have expressed their interest in signing Saint-Etienne centre-back Harold Moukoudi this month, according to Le Parisien.
However Albion are set to be disappointed in their pursuit of the 22-year-old defender as the Ligue 1 club has no interest in selling him in the current January transfer window.
The French newspaper reports that Stoke and Derby have tabled loan bids for Moukoudi while Barnsley are also among the interested parties with the Baggies.
It is understood that Moukoudi wouldn’t have rejected the chance to move to England but Saint-Etienne boss Claude Puel clearly feels as though the former Le Havre man has a role to play for him this season.
Moukoudi only joined Saint-Etienne in the summer but has struggled to hold down a regular role in Puel’s first-team.
He has made 15 appearances in all competitions but has only started one of Saint-Etienne’s last six Ligue 1 fixtures and was not in the squad at all on Saturday when his side won 2-1 against Nimes.
West Brom could do with reinforcements in almost every area of their squad before the January transfer window closes due to a sharp drop in form in the Championship.
However Dara O’Shea’s emergence this season could mean Slaven Bilic is happy with his centre-back options while Jack Fitzwater is also another youngster who can fill in if needed.
West Brom are better off strengthening their attack and midfield, even though their defensive record has not been the best.
In other West Brom news, this youngster staked a huge first-team claim in the 1-0 win against West Ham.
