‘What a strike’ – Charlie Austin reacts to Townsend goal in West Brom win v West Ham

Charlie Austin has taken to Twitter to rave about Conor Townsend’s goal for West Brom in their win against West Ham on Saturday.

Townsend leathered the ball past Darren Randolph in the ninth minute as Albion booked their spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at the London Stadium.

Semi Ajayi was sent off in the second half, meaning the Baggies ended the fixture with 10 men.

However Towsend’s brilliant goal early on was enough for Slaven Bilic to see his side earn victory against his former club.

West Brom striker Austin took to his personal Twitter account after the match to hail Townsend’s goal but also show his gratitude to the fans who travelled to East London.

Great team performance today, so pleased. Conor Townsend, what a strike,” said Austin.

“Big thanks to the 5,000 Baggies fans that travelled today, now time to get back to winning ways in the league.”

It was a bit of a shock to see Townsend getting on the scoresheet on Saturday.

The left-back had been criticised quite often for his performances by Baggies fans in recent weeks but there was no denying the brilliance of his goal at West Ham.

With Kieran Gibbs injured and Nathan Ferguson nowhere to be seen, it is important that we see a lot more from Townsend in the coming weeks.

Hopefully, that goal will boost his confidence for upcoming Championship matches.

In other West Brom news, Rangers have opened talks with this Albion player.
