Player returns to West Brom training ground with deal in the balance – reliable journalist

Nathan Ferguson has returned to the West Brom training ground as his deadline day move to Crystal Palace hangs in the balance, according to Dominic Fifield.

The Athletic journalist has claimed that a fitness issue arose in Ferguson’s medical with the Premier League club on Thursday.

It is understood that West Brom are still trying to push forward with the deal that sees the 19-year-old head to Selhurst Park but Palace are yet to make a decision due to this stumbling block.

Ferguson has shown he has a lot of potential in his appearances for West Brom this season.

Slaven Bilic handed the teenage defender his debut on the opening day of the campaign against Nottingham Forest when he assisted a goal and won Sky Sports’ man of the match award.

He has since grown into an accomplished full-back who can play on either side of the back-four despite developing mainly as a centre-back.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, as quoted by BBC WM, Bilic confirmed the “medical issue” for Ferguson and has revealed that Albion requested to loan the defender back, but that was rejected by the Eagles.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Ferguson is this deal with Crystal Palace falls through.

His contract expires in the summer and he could leave The Hawthorns for next to nothing due to the ridiculous compensation rules.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips is convinced that clubs want to sign this Albion star.
