Report: West Brom January signing attracted PL interest before Hawthorns switch
West Brom loanee Callum Robinson attracted interest from Premier League sides before making the decision to move to the Hawthorns.
That’s according to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley, who has reported that many top-flight sides were looking into a move for the Sheffield United forward.
It was suggested that Robinson decided to make the move to the Midlands over concerns regarding guaranteed playing time in the Premier League, something he wanted to earn at West Brom under Slaven Bilic.
West Brom made that promise to Robinson after his slow start to life at Sheffield United. After another poor result at Cardiff on Tuesday, it would be no surprise to see the Republic of Ireland international come in against Luton next time out.
With a play-off coming up in the summer for a place in the European Championships, Robinson will want to stake his claim for a spot in those decisive games to Mick McCarthy.
The Baggies are also closing in on the signing of Hull City attacker Kamil Grosicki – two moves that could help solve Bilic’s problems in the final third.
Bilic will now have a bucket-load of options available to him in the final third. With Robinson and potentially Grosicki having signed, the loss of missing Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana in the next month could be softened.
The Baggies are struggling to create chances and that was evident against Cardiff. A bigger problem could be that when they do, they aren’t putting them away as they used too – Kenneth Zohore the guilty party in Wales.
