West Brom player exit hits stumbling block as issue raised in medical – report
Nathan Ferguson’s move away from West Brom to join Crystal Palace has hit a snag after an issue was raised in his medical, according to the Daily Mail.
Palace and the Baggies had reportedly agree a deal worth up to £10million for the 19-year-old defender to ditch The Hawthorns and Selhurst Park. However it seems as though the deal might not be completed before the 11pm transfer deadline on Friday.
The Mail reports that a “fitness-related issue” was raised during Ferguson’s medical with the Eagles and the two clubs are in talks about how to proceed.
If Ferguson ends up staying put at West Brom then the Baggies need to sort out a new deal for him as soon as possible because his contract expires at the end of the season.
If they don’t then the defender could leave for a minimal compensation fee in the summer, rather than the £10million fee that has been agreed with Crystal Palace.
Ferguson has enjoyed a breakthrough season at The Hawthorns under Slaven Bilic, who handed him his senior debut against Nottingham Forest in August.
Although he has played well, a lot of fans have been angered by Ferguson’s contract situation and the fact that he has not shown loyalty to the club that developed him.
If he stays, that relationship with the fans will need to be fixed.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has offered his verdict on Ferguson’s situation.
