Chris Willock comments on West Brom stint after sealing January exit to join Huddersfield
Chris Willock has claimed that his loan spell at West Brom gave him a winning drive after sealing a move to Championship rivals Huddersfield on deadline day.
The Benfica loanee cut short his spell at the Hawthorns in favour of a move to Yorkshire, with first-team minutes his main motivation.
The 22-year-old winger failed to make a competitive appearance for the Baggies during his six-months at the club and had to settle for minutes with the under-23s.
After sealing the switch to the John Smith’s Stadium, Willock was asked about his months under Slaven Bilic.
“I think I spent six months without playing, so it was hard, but I tried to stay focused and work on my game every day,” he said after confirming his move.
“I think that gives you a winning drive inside you to do well when you get the opportunity, so hopefully I can do that.”
It was no surprise to see the 22-year-old leave the club, and he will get the opportunity to show the Baggies what they could be missing with a trip to the John Smith’s Stadium still to come.
Bilic won’t have stood in the way of Willock cutting his loan short, especially after strengthening with the arrival of Kamil Grosicki.
The Polish international arrived from Hull City with valuable Championship experience behind him. The 31-year-old has been involved in 32 goals in the past couple of season – impressive numbers.
He has averaged 2.8 shots on goal per game already this season [WhoScored] – more than anyone in the current Baggies squad, which will make Willock more than a distant memory.
