Mason Holgate claims West Brom spell 'best thing' that he's ever done in his career

Everton defender Mason Holgate has claimed that his loan spell at West Brom last season was the best thing he’s ever done.

The young enforcer has established himself at Goodison Park this season after impressing for the Baggies temporarily in the previous campaign.

Holgate claimed he had to ask numerous times to leave on loan, but once he did, he loved every minute of his time in the Midlands.

The 23-year-old is being tipped for an England call-up this season after turning into a central defender, but he still recalls his time with the Baggies.

“West Brom was the best thing that I’ve ever done,” he told the Daily Star.

“I loved every minute of it there, I was playing every game and I learned so much for being there. Although we didn’t get there in the end, every game means so much, you can’t afford to drop points, you can’t afford to have a game of it because you’re going for promotion.”

Holgate’s words could act as a warning to Slaven Bilic and his current West Brom squad. They have dropped points far too frequently in recent times, and have failed to win a game in the Championship since the 3-2 victory at Birmingham.

Automatic promotion has to be the goal given the position they got themselves into after the incredible start to the season. Nottingham Forest are now only two points behind the Baggies, and a win against Luton on Saturday has become a must.

In other West Brom news, Chris Willock has commented on his spell at Baggies, claiming it has given him a winning drive
